Some of the first results of the Bio4Products project will be presented at the RRB conference on 31 May 2018 in Gent, Belgium.
Bert van de Beld from BTG Biomass Technology Group will give a talk on the thermal fractionation of biomass via fast pyrolysis, and how this can be used to create a fast pyrolysis based Bioliquids Refinery.
This concept is already being explored in the framework of the Bio4Products project, where a demo plant is being built to fractionate fast pyrolysis bio-oil into sugar and lignin. Partners are testing how these fractions can substitute conventional fossil fuel materials in a range of products, including waterproofing membranes and phenolic resins (lignin fraction) and sand moulding resins and engineered wood and natural fibre reinforced products (sugar fraction).
The 14th edition of the International Conference on Renewable Resources & Biorefineries will take place from Wednesday 30 May until Friday 1 June, 2018. The conference provides a forum for leading political, corporate, academic and financial people to discuss recent developments and set up collaborations.
Bert will be making his presentation on Thursday 31 May at 14:30 during the session ‘5B – Thermochemical transformations of biomass’. Visit the RBB website to explore the programme and for information about registration.
