Bio4Products aims to develop a new generation of products that are more sustainable than their fossil based predecessors. To check the sustainability risks and environmental performance of the bio-based products under development, BTG Biomass Technology Group is conducting a number of studies within the project.
Some early results of their work are presented in Sustainability and lifecycle assessment of pyrolysis oil production and applications, an article published in the latest issue of PyNe, the newsletter of IEA Bioenergy Task 34.
Full LCAs evaluating the entire value chain (cradle to grave) of the Bio4Products applications are being conducted. The initial results of these LCAs are promising and demonstrate the sustainability of pyrolysis oil from various biomass feedstocks in a wide range of applications.
